Week 8: Free Letter F Activities

Welcome to Week 8 of Freedom Homeschooling’s Letter of the Week preschool curriculum!

Week 8: Letter F Activities

Week 8 of our Letter of the Week preschool curriculum focuses on the letter F and the number five. In Week 8, your child will also learn about frogs, fire safety, the United States flag, and more.

 

Letter F Activities: Day 1

  • Learn about the letter F on Starfall. On each screen of this interactive activity, your child will need to click the letter F, wait for the animation to play, or complete the activity to get the green arrow to appear. Then, he/she will click the green arrow to go to the next screen.
  • Show your child how to write an upper and lowercase F, and have him complete the worksheet on page 36 of the workbook.
  • Watch Five Little Speckled Frogs. Encourage your child to sing along.
  • Watch How a Frog Becomes a Frog to learn about the life cycle of frogs.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

 

Letter F Activities: Day 2

  • Sing the Alphabet Song with your child.
  • Watch Captain Seasalt and the ABC Pirates “F” Island cartoon.
  • Read How the Flowers Grow by Gabriel Setoun on pages 38 and 39 of Child-Library Readers: Book Two.
  • Watch Five Little Speckled Frogs and sing along.
  • Show your child how to write the number 5 and help him/her complete page 37 of the workbook.
  • Practice counting to five with your child using blocks, beads, or other household objects.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Letter F Activities: Day 3

  • Watch Five Little Speckled Frogs. Encourage your child to sing along.
  • Read The Frog Prince as retold by Brandi Chase to your child. You will find the book listed under “2nd and 3rd Grade Books.” It’s a PDF download.
  • On workbook page 38, help your child trace and write the letter F. Read the words under the pictures to him/her.
  • Watch The United States Flag.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Letter F Activities: Day 4

  • Read The Four Friends to your child. The story begins on page 55 of The Little Red Hen and Other Folk Tales. This book is a PDF file.
  • Watch Five Little Speckled Frogs. Encourage your child to sing along.
  • On workbook page 39, help your child write and trace the number 5s. Have your child use a dot marker to mark five boxes of the ten frame. You may want to place something under the worksheet to protect your table, because the dot markers tend to soak through paper.
  • Practice counting to five with your child using blocks, beads, or other household objects.
  • Watch the Letter F Song by ABCmouse.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

 

Letter F Activities: Day 5

  • Sing the Alphabet Song with your child.
  • Watch Sparky’s Fire Safety Club. Discuss fire safety with your child, including your family’s designated meeting place, the importance of never re-entering a burning building, and the dangers of playing with matches or lighters.
  • Have your child color the fire truck picture on page 40 of the workbook.
  • Watch One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss.
  • Watch Five Little Speckled Frogs. Encourage your child to sing along.
  • Optional: Choose an additional activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list below.

 

Additional Letter F Activities

  • Writing- Have your child practice writing the letter F or the number five with his/her finger in a tray of sand, rice, or dried beans.
  • Arts and crafts- fork flower painting, fish bowl art, or finger painting
  • Science- color changing flowers experiment or candy fish science experiment (Skip the printables that go with these experiments.)
  • STEM- Build a blanket fort indoors, a stick fort outdoors, or a mini fort using blocks, Legos, or Lincoln Logs.
  • Field trip- fire station, farm, farmer’s market, forest, factory tour, or go fishing
  • Recipe- fruit salad
  • Snacks- fruit, French fries, figs, Goldfish crackers, or Swedish Fish candy

 

Review Activities

If your child has finished all the Week 8 activities, and time allows, you may want to choose some Week 7 activities to repeat or complete any you weren’t able to get to last week. Week 7 reviewed letters A through E.
