Week 27: Letter V Activities
Week 27 of our Letter of the Week preschool curriculum focuses on the letter V. In Week 27, your child will also begin to write his/her name and learn about vegetable gardening, volcanoes, and more.
Letter V Activities: Day 1
- Sing the alphabet song with your child.
- Learn about the letter V on Starfall. On each screen of this interactive activity, your child will need to click the letter V, wait for the animation to play, or complete the activity to get the green arrow to appear. Then, he/she will click the green arrow to go to the next screen.
- Show your child how to write an upper and lowercase V, and have him complete the worksheet on page 131 of the workbook.
- Watch One Two Buckle My Shoe. Encourage your child to sing along.
- At this point, your child has learned most of the letters, so if you haven’t already, show him how to write his name. On workbook page 132, write your child’s first name lightly on the top line and ask him to trace it. Use only the top line today, as you will use the rest of the lines on this page throughout the week.
- Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.
Letter V Activities: Day 2
- Watch One Two Buckle My Shoe and sing along.
- On workbook page 133, have your child trace the numbers 1 through 20. If this is too much writing at once, you could have him/her finish the page later in the day.
- Watch Captain Seasalt and the ABC Pirates “V” Island cartoon.
- Read The Violet by Jane Taylor on pages 27 and 28 of Poems That Every Child Should Know.
- On workbook page 132, help your child write his first name on the second line of the page. If necessary, write his name on the line so he can trace it. Only use the second line today, as you will use the rest of the lines throughout the week.
- Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.
Letter V Activities: Day 3
- Watch Janice read Vera Viper’s Valentine by Maxwell Higgins.
- On workbook page 134, help your child trace and write the letter V. Read the words under the pictures to him/her.
- Watch One Two Buckle My Shoe and sing along.
- On workbook page 132, help your child write his first name on the third line of the page. If necessary, write his name on the line so he can trace it. Only use the third line on the page today.

Short Vowel U Review
If your child has completed all the Week 27 activities, and time allows, you may want to spend some time reviewing Week 26, which covered the short vowel U. However, if you do not get a chance to review Week 26, it is okay. Week 32 of the Letter of the Week preschool curriculum will review weeks 26 through 31.
