Week 15: Free Letter L Activities

Welcome to Week 15 of Freedom Homeschooling’s Letter of the Week preschool curriculum!

Week 15: Letter L Activities

Week 15 of our Letter of the Week preschool curriculum focuses on the letter L and the number eleven. In Week 15, your child will also learn about leaves, lighthouses, counting down from ten, and more.

Letter L Activities: Day 1

• Sing the alphabet song with your child.
• Learn about the letter L on Starfall. On each screen of this interactive activity, your child will need to click the letter L, wait for the animation to play, or complete the activity to get the green arrow to appear. Then, he/she will click the green arrow to go to the next screen.
• Show your child how to write an upper and lowercase L, and have him complete the worksheet on page 71 of the workbook.
• Watch Mary Had a Little Lamb. Encourage your child to sing along.
• Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Letter L Activities: Day 2

• Watch Mary Had a Little Lamb and sing along.
• Watch Captain Seasalt and the ABC Pirates “L” Island cartoon.
• Show your child how to write the number 11. On workbook page 72, have him/her trace the 11s and use a dot marker to mark eleven boxes in the ten frames. You may want to place something under the worksheet to protect your table, because the dot markers tend to soak through paper.
• Practice counting to eleven with your child using blocks, beads, or other household objects.
• Read The Lion and the Mouse on page 19 of The Fables of Aesop.
• Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Letter L Activities: Day 3

• Watch Mary Had a Little Lamb and sing along.
• On workbook page 73, help your child trace and write the letter L. Read the words under the pictures to him/her.
• Read Little Things by Ebenezer Brewer on page 5 of Poems That Every Child Should Know.
• Read Ladybug Countdown by Allyn Fisher to your child. This story counts the ladybugs down from ten to zero. You will find the ebook listed near the top of the Pre-K Story Collection. It’s available in PDF and ePub formats.
• Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Letter L Activities: Day 4

• Watch Mrs. Tempel read Why Do Leaves Change Color? by Betsy Maestro.
• On workbook page 74, help your child trace and write 11s and place eleven stickers on the worksheet.
• Practice counting to eleven with your child using blocks, beads, or other household objects.
• Watch Miss Jill read We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger.
• Watch Mary Had a Little Lamb and sing along.
• Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Letter L Activities: Day 5

• Watch the Letter L Song by ABCmouse.
• Watch Anne-Louise read The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge by Hildegarde H. Swift and Lynd Ward.
• The Little Red Lighthouse, officially called Jeffrey’s Hook Lighthouse, still stands today on the shore of the Hudson River beneath the George Washington Bridge. Show your child these pictures of the real lighthouse that inspired the book.
• Have your child color the lighthouse on workbook page 75.
• Watch Mary Had a Little Lamb and sing along.
• Optional: Choose an additional activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list below.

Additional Letter L Activities

• Writing- Have your child practice writing the letter L or the number eleven with his/her finger in a tray of sand, rice, or dried beans.
• Arts and crafts- leaf rubbings, ladybug craft, lollipop painting, or a lollipop craft
• Science- fizzing lemonade or lemon volcano
• STEM- build Lego letters
• Field trip- library, lake, lighthouse, local landmark, or take a walk and look at leaves
• Recipe- lemon bars, lettuce wraps, or a lettuce salad. (Let your child help choose the fillings for the wrap or toppings for the salad.)
• Snacks- lime sherbet, lime Jello, lemon yogurt, or a lollipop

Letter K Review

If your child has completed all the Week 15 activities, and time allows, you may want to spend some time reviewing Week 14, which covered the letter K. However, if you do not get a chance to review Week 14, it is okay. Week 19 of the Letter of the Week preschool curriculum will review weeks 14 through 18.
