Week 10: Letter H Activities

Week 10 of our Letter of the Week preschool curriculum focuses on the letter H and the number seven. In Week 10, your child will also learn about houses and more.

Letter H Activities: Day 1

  • Sing the alphabet song with your child.
  • Learn about the letter H on Starfall. On each screen of this interactive activity, your child will need to click the letter H, wait for the animation to play, or complete the activity to get the green arrow to appear. Then, he/she will click the green arrow to go to the next screen.
  • Show your child how to write an upper and lowercase H, and have him complete the worksheet on page 46 of the workbook.
  • Watch One Potato, Two Potatoes. Encourage your child to sing along for practice counting to seven.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Letter H Activities: Day 2

  • Watch Captain Seasalt and the ABC Pirates “H” Island cartoon.
  • Watch One Potato, Two Potatoes and sing along.
  • Show your child how to write the number 7 and help him/her complete page 47 of the workbook.
  • Read The Little Red Hen to your Child. This story begins on page 11 of The Little Red Hen and Other Folk Tales. This book is a PDF file.

Letter H Activities: Day 3

  • Watch One Potato, Two Potatoes and sing along.
  • Watch Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss.
  • On workbook page 48, help your child trace and write the letter H. Read the words under the pictures to him/her.
  • Listen to My Hat by Tony Milton. If you prefer to read the poem to your child, the text version is below the audio player.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Letter H Activities: Day 4

  • Watch One Potato, Two Potatoes and sing along.
  • On workbook page 49, help your child write and trace the number 7s. Have your child use a dot marker to mark seven boxes of the ten frame. You may want to place something under the worksheet to protect your table, because the dot markers tend to soak through paper.

  • Watch Come Over to My House by Dr. Seuss to see different types of houses people around the world live in.
  • Sing the alphabet song with your child.

Letter H Activities: Day 5

  • Watch the Letter H Song by ABCmouse.
  • Watch If I Built a House by Chris Van Dusen.
  • Ask your child if he/she built a house, what would it look like? Have him draw a picture on page 50 of the workbook.
  • Watch One Potato, Two Potatoes and sing along.
  • Optional: Choose an additional activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list below.

Letter G Review

If your child has completed all the Week 10 activities, and time allows, you may want to spend some time reviewing Week 9, which covered the letter G. However, if you do not get a chance to review Week 9, it is okay. Week 13 of the Letter of the Week preschool curriculum will review weeks 8 through 12.
