Week 24: Letter T Activities

Week 24 of our Letter of the Week preschool curriculum focuses on the letter T and the number nineteen. In Week 24, your child will learn about trains, various forms of transportation, turnips, and more. This week also reviews colors.

Letter T Activities: Day 1

  • Sing the alphabet song with your child.
  • Learn about the letter T on Starfall. On each screen of this interactive activity, your child will need to click the letter T, wait for the animation to play, or complete the activity to get the green arrow to appear. Then, he/she will click the green arrow to go to the next screen.
  • Show your child how to write an upper and lowercase T, and have him complete the worksheet on page 116 of the workbook.
  • Watch I’m a Little Teapot. Teach your child the motions and encourage him to sing along.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Letter T Activities: Day 2

  • Watch Captain Seasalt and the ABC Pirates “T” Island cartoon.
  • Show your child how to write the number 19. On workbook page 117, have him/her trace the 19s and use a dot marker to mark nineteen boxes in the ten frames. You may want to place something under the worksheet to protect your table, because the dot markers tend to soak through paper.
  • Practice counting to nineteen with your child using blocks, beads, or other household objects.
  • Read the Hare and the Tortoise on pages 100 and 101 of The Child’s Treasury, edited by May Hill.
  • Watch I’m a Little Teapot, sing along, and do the motions.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Letter T Activities: Day 3

  • Watch I’m a Little Teapot, sing along, and do the motions.
  • Watch Mr. Klein read Freight Train by Donald Crews. In addition to introducing various types of train cars, this story also reviews colors.
  • On workbook page 118, help your child trace and write the letter T. Read the words under the pictures to him/her.
  • Read Said the Toad by J. Patrick Lewis.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Letter T Activities: Day 4

  • Read The Turnip to your child. This story begins on page 84 of The Little Red Hen and Other Folk Tales. This book is a PDF file.
  • Watch Let’s Pull a Turnip to see someone pull a real turnip from her garden.
  • On workbook page 119, help your child trace and write 19s and place nineteen stickers on the worksheet.
  • Practice counting to nineteen with your child using blocks, beads, or other household objects.
  • Watch I’m a Little Teapot, sing along, and do the motions.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Additional Letter T Activities

Letter S Review

If your child has completed all the Week 24 activities, and time allows, you may want to spend some time reviewing Week 23, which covered the letter S. However, if you do not get a chance to review Week 23, it is okay. Week 25 of the Letter of the Week preschool curriculum will review weeks 20 through 24.
