Week 23: Letter S Activities

Week 23 of our Letter of the Week preschool curriculum focuses on the letter S and the number eighteen. In Week 23, your child will also learn about the four seasons, how snowflakes form, science experiments, and more.

Letter S Activities: Day 1

  • Sing the alphabet song with your child.
  • Learn about the letter S on Starfall. On each screen of this interactive activity, your child will need to click the letter S, wait for the animation to play, or complete the activity to get the green arrow to appear. Then, he/she will click the green arrow to go to the next screen.
  • Show your child how to write an upper and lowercase S, and have him complete the worksheet on page 111 of the workbook.
  • Watch Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Encourage your child to sing along.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Letter S Activities: Day 2

  • Watch Captain Seasalt and the ABC Pirates “S” Island cartoon.
  • Show your child how to write the number 18. On workbook page 112, have him/her trace the 18s and use a dot marker to mark eighteen boxes in the ten frames. You may want to place something under the worksheet to protect your table, because the dot markers tend to soak through paper.
  • Practice counting to eighteen with your child using blocks, beads, or other household objects.
  • Read The Silkworm and the Spider on page 67 of The Fables of Aesop.
  • Watch Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and sing along.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

  • Read Stone Soup to your child. You will find the book listed under “2nd and 3rd Grade Books.” It’s a PDF download.

Letter R Review

If your child has completed all the Week 23 activities, and time allows, you may want to spend some time reviewing Week 22, which covered the letter R. However, if you don’t have a chance to review Week 22, it is okay. Week 25 of the Letter of the Week preschool curriculum will review weeks 20 through 24.
