Week 17: Letter N Activities

Week 17 of our Letter of the Week preschool curriculum focuses on the letter N and the number thirteen. In Week 17, your child will also learn about neighborhoods, community helpers, comparing size and height, patterns, exploring nature, and more.

Letter N Activities: Day 1

  • Sing the alphabet song with your child.
  • Learn about the letter N on Starfall. On each screen of this interactive activity, your child will need to click the letter N, wait for the animation to play, or complete the activity to get the green arrow to appear. Then, he/she will click the green arrow to go to the next screen.
  • Show your child how to write an upper and lowercase N, and have him complete the worksheet on page 81 of the workbook.
  • Read Be Glad Your Nose Is on Your Face by Jack Prelutsky to your child.
  • Listen to People in Your Neighborhood. Encourage your child to try to sing along.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Letter N Activities: Day 2

  • Watch Captain Seasalt and the ABC Pirates “N” Island cartoon.
  • Show your child how to write the number 13. On workbook page 82, have him/her trace the 13s and use a dot marker to mark thirteen boxes in the ten frames. You may want to place something under the worksheet to protect your table, because the dot markers tend to soak through paper.
  • Practice counting to thirteen with your child using blocks, beads, or other household objects.
  • Watch Ms. Alphia read Next to an Ant by Mara Rockliff. This story teaches children about comparing size and height.
  • Listen to People in Your Neighborhood and sing along.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Letter N Activities: Day 3

  • Listen to People in Your Neighborhood and sing along.
  • Watch Maybe Something Beautiful: How Art Transformed a Neighborhood by F. Isabel Campoy.
  • On workbook page 83, help your child trace and write the letter N. Read the words under the pictures to him/her.
  • Watch Helpers in Your Neighborhood by Shira Evans to learn about community helpers.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Letter N Activities: Day 4

  • Watch the Letter N Song by ABCmouse.
  • Watch Lilia’s dad read We’re Going on a Nature Hunt by Steve Metzger.
  • On workbook page 84, help your child trace and write 13s and place thirteen stickers on the worksheet.
  • Practice counting to thirteen with your child using blocks, beads, or other household objects.
  • Listen to People in Your Neighborhood and sing along.

Letter M Review

If your child has completed all the Week 17 activities, and time allows, you may want to spend some time reviewing Week 16, which covered the letter M. However, if you do not get a chance to review Week 16, it is okay. Week 19 of the Letter of the Week preschool curriculum will review weeks 14 through 18.
