Free Chinese Curriculum
for many grades
The free homeschool Chinese curriculum on this page is listed alphabetically. Each Chinese curriculum has a suggested grade range next to its title. All the Christian resources are labeled with a “C,” and any resource not labeled as Christian is either secular or neutral.
To use any of the Chinese curriculum listed below, click the curriculum’s title to visit its website. Then, follow the instructions found there to begin using the curriculum.
For other subjects, visit our homepage and choose a subject from the free curriculum menu found there. There are options for all the standard subjects and many electives.
Free Homeschool Chinese Curriculum
Clozemaster (9th – adults)
Clozemaster provides Chinese vocabulary practice and listening exercises. The program presents sentences with a word missing, and students fill in the blank. While much of the content is free, a paid version is also available, offering additional features.
Cursa (8th – adults)
The Cursa app offers several Chinese language learning courses. The length and format of the courses vary, but most are video-based. The app is available on Google Play or the App Store.
Duolingo (6th – adults)
Duolingo offers interactive translation-based instruction for Chinese. The website tracks progress as students learn at their own pace. While the lessons are free, there is also a paid version that includes additional features.
edX (10th – college)
This nonprofit, created by Harvard and MIT, offers several Chinese courses. The length and format vary from course to course, and availability changes periodically. The courses are free to audit, or certificates of completion are also available for a fee.
Georgia Virtual Learning (8th – 12th)
Georgia Virtual Learning has Chinese 1 through 4. The courses consist of online text, videos, and interactive activities. Assessments are not included.
The Language Guide (5th – adults)
This website uses text, audio lessons, and interactive activities to teach Chinese vocabulary and grammar.
Learn 101 (6th – adults)
The Chinese vocabulary and grammar lessons at Learn 101 include audio recordings to assist with pronunciation.
Loecsen (4th – adults)
These beginner level Chinese lessons include audio recordings from native speakers, reading & listening exercises, memory quizzes, and more. While the lessons are free, there is also a paid version that includes additional features.
LibreTexts (9th – college)
LibreTexts offers several online Chinese textbooks for college students. Most of the textbooks cover elementary or introductory Chinese and should also work well with high school students.
OpenLearn (10th – college)
This website has several introductory level Chinese courses. The length and format of the classes may vary.
Pitch Perfect Pinyin (7th – adults)
Pitch Perfect Pinyin, a resource created by the University of Texas at Austin, provides interactive practice exercises for Mandarin Chinese.
