Free 8th Grade Christian Homeschool Curriculum

Are you looking for free 8th grade homeschool curriculum? At Freedom Homeschooling, we list several free all-in-one-curriculum programs. These programs include every subject your 8th grader will need. Homeschoolers often choose all-in-one programs because of the simplicity they provide. They take care of the planning and curriculum selection for you.

However, many homeschoolers, including myself, prefer to choose a separate curriculum for each subject. This allows us to customize our children’s education, choosing materials that fit their learning styles and individual needs in each subject area. Also, I’ve always enjoyed the variety that a more eclectic approach provides. Using the same approach and materials for every subject can become monotonous for some students.

Below, I’ve provided a sample free 8th grade Christian curriculum. This sample curriculum is intended to give you an idea of what a free 8th grade homeschool curriculum could look like. Feel free to make substitutions as needed. If you have other children, you may prefer to study some subjects, like Bible, history, and science, together as a family.

Language Arts

First Semester: The Good & the Beautiful (TGTB) Level 8 Language Arts Book Studies cover literature, writing, spelling, grammar, punctuation, art, and geography in one downloadable course. The course download includes three book study booklets, the accompanying books, and TGTB’s Grammar and Writing Guide. The books covered are The Touch of Magic & The Story of My Life (30 lessons), Abraham Lincoln (28 lessons), and Wild Like Foxes (19 lessons). Completing all three book studies (77 lessons) should take about a semester.

Second Semester: Getting Your Point Across in Writing from Heron Books covers narrative, descriptive, expository, and persuasive essays. The course download includes a student textbook, a learning guide, an exam, and an exam answer key. The learning guide provides a schedule for the courses, reading assignments, and activities. Some activities, like essay writing, will take more than one day.

Just Grammar from Robertson Academy Books is a downloadable workbook providing grammar and punctuation practice. There is an answer key in the back of the workbook.

Your child should be able to complete both Getting Your Point Across in Writing and Just Grammar in a semester. If you would like to also include literature in the 2nd semester, use library books, free ebooks, or a free 8th grade reader.

Math

MasterMath offers 8th grade math. If your child is ready for it, they also offer Algebra I. MasterMath’s lessons include video lectures, printable worksheets, an online quiz, and links to other websites for practice and further discussion of the lesson’s concept. To complete this math curriculum, the parent will need to add additional worksheets or online practice for each concept. While the author recommends an IXL math subscription, IXL is not free. Instead, you can find free practice at Math is Fun, Khan Academy, and School Yourself. For more information on using MasterMath, be sure to read their instructions for homeschoolers.

Science

In Easy Peasy All-in-One Homeschool’s Physics and Chemistry course, your child will learn about the periodic table of elements, atoms, molecules, the states of matter, chemical reactions, light, sound, forces, the Three Laws of Motion, energy, heat, electricity, magnetism, simple machines, engineering, and more. The course is made up of a printable workbook, readings, videos, online activities, hands-on activities, and experiments. The material is scheduled in 180 daily lessons. Easy Peasy offers this course at two levels. Your 8th grader will be in the upper level, which is designed for 5th through 8th grade.

History

In Easy Peasy All-in-One Homeschool’s History – Geography and Cultures course, your child will learn about the history, physical geography, landmarks, and cultures of countries worldwide. He or she will learn to read and create maps. Your child will demonstrate their knowledge of the material by completing a variety of projects. Easy Peasy offers this course at two levels. Your 8th grader will be in the upper level, which is designed for 5th through 8th grade. The course is scheduled in 180 daily lessons.

Music

In Easy Peasy All-in-One Homeschool’s Music – Geography and Cultures course, your child will learn about instrument families and individual instruments, including how each instrument makes music and about the types of instruments used around the world. Your child will also learn about composition, instrumentation, pitch, and dynamics in music. This music course consists of 36 weekly lessons and coincides with Easy Peasy’s Geography and Cultures course.

Bible

Bible Fluency is a multi-media Bible survey course with video instruction, teacher’s guides, workbooks, flashcards, teaching aids, and memory songs. The course is divided into Old and New Testament sections, each of which can be completed in 12 weeks. Most of the lessons will take about an hour to complete. The lessons can be done once a week or spread out over multiple days. You can read Cathy Duffy’s review for more information about Bible Fluency.

Alternatively, if your child began the Journey Everyday Bible reading plan included in our 6th and 7th grade curriculum guides and didn’t finish it, you may want to continue using Journey Everyday for 8th grade. Life Skills

Practical Money Skills teaches students basic financial concepts. Some of the topics covered are making money, budgeting, buying a home, credit cards, saving and investing, the influence of advertising, consumer awareness, and more. Each lesson includes a downloadable teacher’s guide, student activities, and a PowerPoint presentation. There are only 14 lessons, so this course should take less than a semester to complete.

After your child finishes Practical Money Skills, choose lessons from Family Consumer Sciences based on your goals and your child’s interests. Family Consumer Sciences offers lessons covering cooking, nutrition, sewing, child development, consumer skills, and many other life skills. The lessons include videos, printables, and hands-on activities.

Computer Skills

Code.org’s Computer Science Discoveries course covers programming, physical computing, HTML/CSS, data, and more. Your child will engage with computer science as a medium for creativity, communication, problem-solving, and fun. They will also learn how to build websites, apps, and games. The course can either be taught in a semester or as a year-long course.

Physical Education and Health

The Easy Peasy High School PE/Health 1 course was designed for 9th graders, but it also works well for 8th graders. In the course, your child will learn the health benefits of many types of exercise, read articles about health, and exercise twice a week. The course provides a 36-week schedule. When the course schedule says to “read a health article,” I would suggest choosing an article for your child to read most weeks rather than letting them select their own. I would also choose articles from a variety of sources rather than sticking only to the list provided in the course.
